Why Rebecca Black Doesn't Deserve the Hate

I don't blame you if you think I'm weird for saying this. But after seeing Rebecca Black's "My Moment", I honestly don't think that Rebecca Black is worthy of the hate she's been getting. True, I did write a post before this about why Rebecca Black should be hated. True, in Top Ten Week, we did a Top 10 Reasons to Hate Rebecca Black. I can see how I might look like one of the haters. For a while I was. But after seeing "My Moment", and some of her interviews on YouTube, I came to the realization that Rebecca Black is just an ordinary thirteen year old girl.

After "Friday" debuted, people dubbed Rebecca as "The Worst Singer in the World". Okay, seriously? The "Worst Singer in the World"? Um, I watch American Idol, and trust me. Some of the singers you hear on that show are way, way, WAY worse than Rebecca Black. And honestly, Rebecca Black isn't too bad. I mean, sure, I've heard better singers, but she's not absolutely horrible.

Also, Rebecca Black was just a girl with a dream. (Sorry for sounding cliche.) Some people say that the only reason she got onto YouTube was because she's a spoiled brat, but that's not true. In her interview on the Jay Leno show, she says the reason she even made a music video was because she's really into music, so her friend recommended her to Ark Music, a record label geared towards teens. She never said that she begged her parents to let her make a music video so she could become a superstar, which is what some people think.

And another thing, the song "Friday" wasn't even Rebecca's idea. She didn't come up with the lyrics. Ark Music sent them to her. Originally, Ark Music had sent her a song about being a guy's superhero, but Rebecca didn't really want to do that song since she's only thirteen and felt too young to be singing about a topic like that. So then, Ark Music sent her "Friday", and Rebecca felt a lot more comfortable with those lyrics. People are criticizing Rebecca Black and sending her hate messages because they think   "Friday" is stupid. But--news flash people!--you can't say that because Rebecca Black didn't even write the song.

And another thing, Rebecca Black is just a normal teenager. Imagine being a thirteen year old receiving hate messages like the ones she's been receiving. Rebecca's actually had to remove "Friday" from the internet because of all the horrible comments she's gotten. I would too, if I were in her shoes.

I actually kind of respect Rebecca Black for how she's dealt with all the hate. I mean, if I was in her shoes and I was the one receiving all those horrible messages, and hearing all those awful things said about me, I'd be pretty depressed. But Rebecca Black actually seems to be dealing with all the hate pretty well.

I honestly don't think Rebecca Black should be treated the way she has been. The things people have said about her have been pretty cruel. Haven't you ever heard the saying: "If you can't say anything nice, don't say it at all"? (Excuse me for sounding like a goody-goody.) I think this saying goes for Rebecca Black's situation. Come on people. Is Rebecca Black really worthy of all the hate?
