Friday... Is It Worth The Hype?

When you hear the lyrics: "It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday!" , what comes to your mind? A video on YouTube that got millions of hits, or Rebecca Black, the worst singer ever?

It's no secret that Rebecca Black's music video entitled Friday was a huge hit with the public. The question is, was it a hit for all the wrong reasons? To put it nicely, Black's voice is like Kermit the Frog meets Selena Gomez. It's high-pitched and squeaky, and isn't really all that pleasant to listen to. The viral video Friday more than likely got public attention because Black's so-called singing was laughable. It's addictively irritating, and that's what made people want to hear it.

The singing isn't the only thing that made this video lousy. It's the meaning of the lyrics that add to the stupidity of it all. Especially the line in the song that goes: "Tomorrow is Saturday/ and Sunday comes afterwards/ I don't want this weekend to end!" Way to state the obvious. Also, another exceptionally stupid line is the one that goes: "Gotta get down to the bus stop/ Gotta catch my bus/ I see my friends/ Kickin' in the front seat/ Kickin' in the back seat/ Gotta make my mind up/ Which seat can I take?" In the video, it shows Black's friends pulling up in a convertible. First of all, if Black is only thirteen, why does she have friends that are driving? Also in the video, it shows that there is only one seat available in the car. So why is Black wondering about which seat she should take when there's only one left?

Friday is probably one of the biggest videos to hit our nation. But is it so popular for all the right reasons? You be the judge. Is this bouncy song really worth the hype?
